1. Sir Macfarlan Burnet (1899-1985)

Sir Macfarlan Burnet was a renowned Australian virologist. Born in Traralgon, Gippsland, he won the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine in 1960 for his discoveries concerning acquired immunological tolerance and the nature of immunity. Burnet played a vital role in developing vaccines and understanding how our immune system responds to infections.

2. Mary MacKillop (1842-1909)

Mary MacKillop, also known as Saint Mary of the Cross, was an influential Australian nun and the country's first canonized saint. Although born in Fitzroy, Melbourne, MacKillop spent a significant part of her childhood in Gippsland, where her family owned land. She co-founded the Sisters of St Joseph of the Sacred Heart, a religious order focused on educating and supporting the poor, and played a significant role in establishing schools and welfare programs across Australia.

3. Carrie Webb Olson (1877-1960)

Carrie Webb Olson was a remarkable Australian geologist and paleontologist, known for her remarkable work on fossil mollusks. Born in Sale, Gippsland, Olson made significant contributions to the understanding of invertebrate paleontology and stratigraphy. Her research and publications greatly advanced the field and her work is still highly regarded by professionals in the field today.

4. Graham Kennedy (1934-2005)

Graham Kennedy was a pioneering Australian television presenter and entertainer, often referred to as "the King of Australian Television." 5. Eddie McGuire (b. 1964)

Eddie McGuire is a prominent Australian media personality, presenter, and businessman. Born and raised in Broadford, Gippsland, McGuire has had a successful career in the media, most notably as the long-standing host of the game show "Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?" and as president of the Collingwood Football Club, one of Australia's most successful soccer teams.

6. Harry Hopman (1906-1985)

Harry Hopman was a highly regarded Australian tennis player and coach. Born in Glebe, Sydney, Hopman spent a considerable part of his life in Traralgon, Gippsland. He led the Australian Davis Cup team to numerous victories as the team's captain and coach during the 1930s and 1950s. Hopman was inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame for his contributions to the sport.
